Expedition center

Building the Expedition Center

As of v2.2.6 of the iOS (not iPad) version of the game, the Expedition Center was added to the game.

The Expedition appears on the beach from the very start of the game, but is not available for use until 1800 Xp big has been collected (about half way through level 5). At that stage, an investment of 150 Action energy drop and 17000 Award icon dollar is required to enable it. When ready, the player is then awarded with 100 Xp big, 4000 Award icon dollar, one medium profit scroll, one medium time scroll, one tourist certificate and one small tourmaline recipe.

2 Beach disco automatically moved to the warehouse

The Expedition Center is positioned to the right of the Idol. Any buildings (such as Beach Discos or Alexandrian Lighthouses) that occupied the space before, are moved to special extra slots in the warehouse. It is assumed that all beach decorations in the area are lost.

2.2.8 Changes

Version 2.2.8 of the iOS game has brought two disappointing changes. It's unclear whether this is as a result of a bug or a deliberate change to the game.

Firstly, changes have been made to the chances that the Treasure Seeker will find extra loot compared to the Traveller or Tourist. Previously, the Treasure Seeker increased the chances of finding all loot types. As of 2.2.8, they no longer offer an extra chance of finding large scrolls, 500 Action energy drop Roll energy large, Key3 large, Shovel and Small tourmaline shard.

Secondly, the chances of any expedition returning anything but a few Award icon dollar, Xp big seem to have been seriously increased. Previously, a trip might return a number of extras, but now getting more than one extra item is unusual.

Making Journeys

The purpose of the Expedition Center is to send a team of explorers off on treasure seeking journeys. You can send them on up to 60 journeys in any 24 hour period.

To select a journey, first select a location.

Locations
There are five locations, though access to higher level locations seems to be XP-dependent (at least for the iOS version of the game). Different locations need different sized teams and equipment before they'll set off:
Location Requirements
Level Name Team size Equipment
1 Forest 2 None
2 Valley 3 3 Shovel (shovels)
3 Mountains 3 4 Ropes and carabiners (ropes and carabiners)
4 Cave 3 5 Light-helmet (light helmets)
5 Ruins 3 6 Pickaxe (pickaxes)

Having equipped your team, you then need to plot a route. This can be achieved via one of two methods: solving a simple maze, or by paying 1 € to bypass the maze.

Plotting a route

Up to three such journeys can be launched at any one time.

Team members and equipment

There are three types of team member that can join in a journey

Name Description Hire Cost
Tourist
Tourist Cheapest type. There is always one of these in any expedition. A journey equipped with only tourists when have little chance of finding anything bar a few Award icon dollar, Xp big and maybe one or two Shovel and Thaler. One of these must be purchased before any journeys can occur. Tourists cost 3600 Award icon dollar each. (Varies by level)
Traveler
Traveller Costs a bit more than a tourist. Using travellers increases the chances of finding Shell large, Pearl large and Golden ring 10700 Award icon dollar (Varies by level)
Treasure Seeker
Treasure Seeker The best of the bunch. Increases the chances of an expedition finding all of the treasure types. 15 Fly piastre light

An important note is that, having hired a team member, they stick around for multiple journeys. It's too early to say whether it's forever, or for a certain number of journeys. Either way, they appear to be hired for many journeys, which makes the treasure seeker a more practical proposition.

Currently, there is only one type of equipment required for journeys: the shovel (Shovel). Three of these are needed for a journey into the Valley. They can either be found as treasure on other journeys, or purchased for 1 Fly piastre light each.

Treasure (loot) and Thalers

The purpose of any journey is to find treasure (generally referred to as loot. The various types of loot available is gathered into sets and the chances of finding anything from a set is shown when planning a journey:

Treasure sets

The number, and colour of illuminated segments around the outside indicate the chance of finding anything from that set. One illuminated, red, segment, means very little chance. All segments illuminated in green means a very high chance. Depending on the chance of finding an item from any set, you may receive one or more items from each set in the journey's loot. A typical loot looks something like the following:

The loot sets introduce two new items into the game: a new coin type, called Thalers (Thaler) and shards of a new gem called Tourmaline (Small tourmaline shard).

Repeat journeys

Note - this feature requires the mandatory expenditure of Fly piastre light

Whilst a journey is underway, you are offered the option of repeating it. This enables you to re-run the expedition without having to re-select the team and equipment and solve the maze. To do so though, you must buy and use a certificate.

Four certificates exist. Each has a different cost and benefit:

Name Number of repeat journeys Cost
Tourist certificate Tourist certificate 1 1 Fly piastre light
Traveler certificate Traveller certificate 5 4 Fly piastre light
Treasure seeker certificate Treasure seeker certificate 16 12 Fly piastre light
Legend certificate Legend certificate 35 25 Fly piastre light

There is one incentive beyond saving time/effort in using these certificates to repeat journeys. The secret Numismatics award requires the purchase of 25 certificates. Any type can be purchased and e. g. the legend certificate only counts as one purchase, not 35. It is the most economical to buy tourist certificates (a total of 24 piastres needs to be paid, as one is supplied free when the expedition center is enabled). This does not take into account each certificates' benefits.
